Let's say the world's largest digital bank (Binance) is heavily guarded by an automatic, robotic security system referred to as Multi-Social gathering Computation (MPC). The thief (Hacker) didn't hassle making an attempt to break the unbreakable vault doors. As an alternative, they managed to hack into the laptop computer of a high-level engineer who helps construct the bank's inner methods. Using this entry, the thief disguised themselves as one of the bank's trusted inner packages. They primarily tricked the robotic security guards into approving an enormous, unauthorized withdrawal, draining billions of dollars from the financial institution's everyday cash registers.

The thief walked out with a fortune in digital money, but they have been racing towards a ticking clock. They knew the company that issues this particular digital cash (Tether and Circle) has a master "freeze" button to cease criminals. To launder the cash earlier than the freeze hit, the thief sprinted to an automated web pawn store (Aave). This pawn store is run completely by code, with no human staff to ask questions or confirm where the money got here from.

The thief slapped $60 million of the stolen digital cash on the pawn store counter as collateral. In return, the automated system gladly lent them $45 million value of a unique asset (Wrapped ETH)—a kind of digital cash that has no central grasp freeze button. The thief took the unfreezable digital cash and vanished, with completely no intention of ever returning to repay the mortgage and reclaim their deposit.

Minutes later, the authorities (Tether and Circle) hit the master change, freezing the stolen digital money perfectly in place. But the thief was already gone. The automated pawn store (Aave) was left holding $60 million in utterly frozen, unusable collateral (USDT & USDC). Nevertheless, the pawn store didn't go bankrupt. To cowl the $45 million loss, the system simply dipped into its own corporate treasury and a special insurance pool (Staked Crypto). This pool is funded by buyers who explicitly agreed to act as a financial backstop for the pawn shop in change for incomes excessive interest rates. The thief pulled off the right digital heist, and the volunteers holding the security internet ended up paying the tab.
